Dear Friends of Exploration Station,

The building in "community building" starts with each of us. Especially building a community with the youngest in mind. Exploration Station is a place where the youngest in mind is at the heart of all programming. The Center was built in 2000 with Smart Start funds, a BB&T contribution and private sector donations. Exploration Station exists to enrich the lives of children, youth, families, teachers and childcare providers by creating unique and extraordinary experiences that help create a love of learning. In the past year the center earned recognition as a national member of the American Children's Museum Association. At the heart of the center children's programming includes math, science, music, art and social studies based sessions on a daily basis. Seminars and workshops for parents and childcare providers are also offered on a range of topics and issues: health and safety, cognitive development, teaching methods, computer technology and school readiness. In addition to the regular daily programming, seminars and workshops, Exploration Station, also sponsors special events such as Storytelling Concerts, Kids Camps and Parents Night Out throughout the year.

From Exploration Station's grand opening on September 27th, 2000, programming and use at the Station continues to grow. Ever present economic obstacles have not reduced the quality of the center. The quality and growth is due to the community's support and belief that the center is a place where education with imagination empowers the mind and makes learning fun.

It is our hope that you will join the Exploration Station family or renew your commitment and support the 2002/2003 fundraising campaign. Proceeds from this annual campaign will enable Exploration Station to implement an interactive exhibit in coordination with Discovery Place of Charlotte, complete outside signage of the building and match operational Smart Start funds and keep the quality of programming and high impact learning environment available to the public. Thank you in advance for your contribution. All efforts are appreciated as we make plans to continue positive growth of programming at the center.

Sincere thanks,
Dr. Mary Ann Masters, Chairman
